Press Release

March

ICU Security Inc. is pleased to announce a successful presence in International Security Conference & Exposition (ISC'99) held in Las Vegas, NV. on March 10-12, 1999.

Security Industry Association (SIA), the sponsor of ISC Expo, selected the following (ICU-8 CCTV security system) for their New Product Showcase (NPS).
Four Most Significant Features of the ICU-8 CCTV Security System

1) Low Cost
2) Complete Package
3) High Quality Motion Detection
4) Fastest Frame Rate

1)  The ICU-8 is the most affordable CCTV system considering the number of features and flexibility of its applications.  For the home security market, it works with existing TVs and VCRs.  It also is flexible enough to satisfy the needs of the most demanding commercial CCTV installations.

2) The ICU-8 is provided as a complete package.  There's nothing more to buy!  Simply hook up the 8 cameras (provided) and connect to your TV and VCR for recording option.  In just minutes, you have a self-contained security system.  It's easy to install and operate and, comes with a hand-held remote control for added convenience.

3)  It uses a high quality motion-detection algorithm evolved from 15 years of motion detector design experience of ICU's engineering team.  It works on a high-resolution pixel level which offers enhanced features, such as trace effect, object tracking and museum mode. The benefits are robust alarm generation with minimal false alarms in indoor and outdoor settings.

4)  ICU Security Inc. is working on a proprietary video compression algorithm to achieve video transmission via regular phone lines at 20 frames per second.  This technology will not use typical DCT-type algorithms that are used in most other popular compression engines, such as MPEG, JPEG, 8x8, Wavelet and Fractal.  ICU's proprietary video compression, currently in patent approval process, will use an adaptive feature-extraction algorithm where image attributes are mathematically represented in a three dimensional Cartesian plane, using polygonal extrusion on the time (Z) plane and look-up tables for "best-fit" primal shapes.

Specific Benefits to the Buyers

Affordable: With ICU's aggressive pricing strategy through proprietary new technology, taking advantage of CCTV Security Systems is not limited to luxury homes of the rich and famous anymore!

Complete package: With the self-contained ICU-8 system, consumers do not have to buy any other accessories to have a complete intelligent security system.  Processing unit with built-in digital motion detection and internal modem, eight (8) cameras, hand held remote control, software for remote monitoring through PC, power adapters and connection cables are all included in the package.

Practical: This system does not need a designated monitor.  It works with existing consumers' TVs, VCRs and PCs.  In an alarm event, it automatically displays a picture-in-picture on the TV screen (even if the TV set is not equipped with PIP feature).  It also turns the VCR on and records qualified alarms.

Flexible:  The ICU-8 may be used as a stand-alone security system or can trigger other security systems.  It may be connected to other security/safety devices such as smoke alarms, door/widow contacts, PIR sensors, infrared motion detectors or any other alarm stimulus.  For applications requiring more than eight cameras, ICU-8 processors can be daisy chained.

Cutting-edge technology:  The proprietary video compression engine in combination with the built-in modem, provides for remote surveillance and monitoring via regular phone lines up to 20 frames per second with high quality video transmission.  All cameras may be remote-monitored by the user or by a central monitoring station.

Ease of installation and usage:  The system is designed to be easily installed.  Easy to follow on screen menus can be set by a hand-held remote control for custom programming.

Built-in intelligence:  Digital motion detection can be set for single or multiple analysis, directional motion detection and museum (still) mode.  Criteria for setting motion detection to qualify an alarm are size of the moving object, contrast of the moving object from its background and duration of motion.  On-screen grids of 12 rows by 24 columns are used for customizing zone pattern masking.  E.g. the grids defining the parameter of a pool side can be turned on with the rest of the backyard off, so children can safely play in the backyard; but when they get close to the pool, an alarm is generated.

Typical residential applications:  Driveways, Entrances, Nurseries, Garages, Children's Bedroom, Baby sitting, Pets, Pool sides, Monitoring the sick and elderly&…;

Typical commercial applications:  Retail Stores, Schools, Restaurants, Warehouses, Convenient Stores, Day Care Centers, Office Buildings, Manufacturing Sites &…;
